ABOUT BLACK WIDOW SPIDERS:

Do you know of a good source on the
biology of black widows. Specifically
on the details of just how often the
female really eats the male, and so
forth. I have several good general
spider texts and none of them talk at
all about it. (Wed, 7 Feb 2001) |

USING
SPDERS FOR DESENSITAZION THERAPY:
|
|
Email |
Can you help me locate a source of
spiders of various sizes for use y a
registered cognitive-behavioral
therapist in treating a spider phobia?
The therapist and client could
probably travel to the location of the
spiders. The treatment would involve
viewing and possibly handling (if
safe). (Thu, 30 Nov 2000) |

Answer |
I am sorry but we don't have any
spider colonies, or know of any you
could access. You might try an exotic
pet store where tarantulas are sold. |

SPIDERS:

Email |
I am a biology student at the
University college of the Fraser
Valley in British Columbia. I am doing
a project on the black widow spider
and I am having difficulty finding
information on the poison gland cell
that produces toxic protiens for
export, and how the nucleus controls
this activity. (Fri, 27 Oct 2000) |

TARANTULA??:
|
|
Email |
I found a spider in my garage that I
thought might be a tarantula. It is
gray, with fuzzy legs, and about 1-1/2
inches across while at rest. It could
be 2" if the legs were flat. The
body was round and bumpy and looked
like it was divided into three
sections. Not separate sections, just
lines or indentations that looked like
sections. Can you tell me what kind of
spider this is? (Mon, 6 Nov 2000) |
