  • 12/12 - Sudden Oak Death Field Workshop  (pdf)
    Thursday, December 12 - 10 am – 12 noon. Huddart County Park, 1100 Kings Mountain Rd., Woodside, CA (see directions)
    • This is a 2-hour field workshop to demonstrate treatment methods used to prevent Sudden Oak Death (SOD).
    • Speaker: Dr. Matteo Garbelotto, UCCE Specialist in Forest Pathology and Mycology, UC Berkeley. Dr. Garbelotto has conducted much of the research on SOD treatments and will share his findings. For the text of his study on SOD treatments, see Arboriculture and Urban Forestry, Vol. 33, No. 5 (2007).
    • Rationale: SOD cases have increased in the past year and more oaks are being considered for treatment. For treatments to be effective, a number of factors need to be considered. This workshop will address these factors and demonstrate application techniques in an outdoor setting.
    • Registration: This workshop is FREE, but registration is required. To register, call 650-726-9059 x101 and give your name and affiliation (company or organization). Or, send an email message to wrotchstein@ucdavis.edu. Register ASAP – registration is on a "first-come/first-serve" basis, with a 100-person limit.

    • Directions: From Hwy 280 (north or south), take the Woodside Rd. exit and drive west. After about 1.5 miles, turn right on Kings Mountain Rd and drive up the hill (2.3 miles) following signs to Huddart Park. Turn right into Huddart Park, drive past the entry booth, and follow signs to the Werder Shelter. Parking areas are close to the shelter.

  • Sunday, May 6, 2007; 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. - Third Annual Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour (www.BringingBackTheNatives.net)
    This free, self-guided tour showcased 60 pesticide-free, water-conserving East Bay gardens that provide habitat for wildlife and contain 30% or more native plants. There was no cost to attend, though registration was required by April 25, 2007. Sudden Oak Death presentations and materials were available at select gardens throughout the day – contact Janice Alexander (jalexander@ucdavis.edu) for more information.
  • Phytophthora ramorum Wildland Trainings
    Each session was a full-day training, with the morning session indoors and the afternoon session out in the field. Topics included current disease status, treatment updates, and management efforts in California's forests and landscapes. Sessions were free of charge and were open to everyone.   • Field tour for Christmas tree growers
    10/19/2006 - Location: Black Road Christmas Tree Farm, 19749 Black Rd, Los Gatos, CA 95033. Directions and Maps
    For the past two years, the USDA Forest Service and PNW Christmas Tree Association have supported a Washington State University project to examine factors associated with the development of sudden oak death on Christmas trees. During this event, Gary Chastagner and members of his staff will provide growers an opportunity to examine trees with different SOD symptoms, discuss the results of their research and discuss potential ways to manage this disease on Christmas trees.
