Joint UC Berkeley/UC Davis Workshop: "The Transition to High-Tech Agriculture in California's Central Valley"

A joint UC Berkeley/UC Davis workshop was held to help define what are the relevant agricultural research issues for the University of California for the future, particularly with respect to the impact of emerging biotechnologies and information technologies on the agriculture of California's premier Central Valley.  The workshop took place over the course of two days:  Wednesday, March 20, 1996 in the Seaborg Room of the Faculty Club at the University of California, Berkeley, and Friday, March 22, 1996 in the Founder's Room of the Buehler Alumni House at the University of California, Davis.  Academic and extension faculty from each university, as well as government and industry representatives, presented their views on future challenges facing California agriculture and the role of technology in addressing these issues.  The following text details some of the findings from the workshop.
