Children
and Weight:
What Communities Can Do
In
2002, the Center for Weight and Health published Children
and Weight: What Communities Can Do, a tool kit designed
respond to the increasing problem of childhood obesity
by bringing people together and mobilizing local resources.
The
University of California Cooperative Extension county
staff helped pilot test the kit by launching coalitions
in counties across California in 2001. These groups have
now been meeting for about two years and have undertaken
a wide variety of activities across the Spectrum
of Prevention, from health education to policy reform,
to accomplish their goals. The Community
Coalition Updates section offers current project and
contact information about these groups
If
you are a member of a community group working on childhood
obesity in California or elsewhere in the U.S., please
contact
us so that we may list your group on this site.
