Course Objective:
By the end of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Student familiarizes self with the roles of dietitians in varied areas of practice, their differences and similarities.
  2. Student gains realistic view of career opportunities for dietitians in today’s job market.
  3. Student discusses issues of current interest and concern to the profession of dietetics.
  4. Student identifies the value of active participation in professional associations.
  5. Student takes the responsibility to design and organize materials for his/her debate.
  6. Student participates in a debate on a current controversy in dietetics/nutrition.
  7. Student provides meaningful feedback to classmates on their presentations.
  8. Student begins to develop a professional portfolio.

Assignments

  1. Student will participate in one debate with classmates, following the guidelines provided.
  2. Student will evaluate participants in each debate which they attend.
  3. Professional Portfolio.


Grades:

Letter grade will be based on attendance, class participation, seminar presentation, report and compliance with guidelines. Points will be allocated as follows:
Debate50 pts
Class participation/attendance20 pts
Portfolio30 pts
Total100 pts
