General Information
"Dedicated to research on the
development and use of wild lands"
Russell Reservation is a 283 acre research station located adjacent to
Briones Regional Park in the coastal hills of Contra Costa county, California. Since 1961 it
has provided a location for wildland resource research and teaching for the
University of California, Berkeley.
Russell Reservation encloses a small but complete watershed. The property is
bordered on three sides by 5,700 acre Briones Regional Park. Adjoining Briones
Park, and less than a mile from Russell Reservation, is the East Bay Municipal
Utility District's (EBMUD) Briones Reservoir. The EBMUD land extends for three
miles west to Tilden and Wildcat Canyon Regional Parks. This makes the
Reservation part of one of the largest continuous wildland areas in the San
Francisco Bay area.
