Phytophthora ramorum Zoospores Emerging
Sudden Oak Death is a disease that has killed hundreds of thousands of trees in California and Oregon. It has infected large areas of live oak and tanoaks forests. This
microscope footage shows the zoospores of P. ramorum, the causal agent of SOD, emerging from the sporangia. Under the right environmental conditions
infectious
zoospores are released and may infect new host trees.
