Research Topics

We are interested in theoretical, methodological and applied approaches to understanding change in landscape patterns and processes in response to human activity and natural disturbance. We use simulation modeling, geographic information systems, and remote sensing as tools to study the spatial patterns and processes of ecological systems, such as carbon cycling and its interaction with global climate change. We apply these theories and methods to environmental and resource management at scales that range from watershed to regional to global. Geographically, our current research projects range from the Blodgett Forest and the Feather River watershed in California to Beijing and Shandong province in China.
