Travel:

 

        We recommend that participants arrive at the Clark Kerr Campus on the afternoon or evening of Sunday, August 7. Schedule departures for Saturday before noon (August 14).


Airports:


San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is served by most major airlines.

  • The fastest and most convenient local transport to the Clark Kerr campus is by airport van. Check with the airport Local Travel Information desk near baggage terminals for directions. Cost is about $25 per person from the airport to the Clark Kerr Campus.
  • A taxi from the airport can carry 3-4 persons for a fare of $40-45. Travel time is about 35-40 minutes, longer during heavy traffic.
  • Public transport is available via BART train from SFO airport terminal to the Downtown Berkeley station, about 40 km (24 miles) distant. Take the Pittsburg/Bay Point train to Oakland 12th Street and transfer to a Richmond train to the Downtown Berkeley station. The trip takes about 1 hour ($6). Clark Kerr campus is 1 km (slightly uphill) from the Downtown Berkeley station. Cab fare from the Downtown Berkeley BART station to the Clark Kerr Campus should be about $6.

Oakland International Airport (OAK) is served by many domestic and some international airlines and is somewhat closer and easier to reach from Berkeley than San Francisco.

  • A shuttle bus ($2) circulates frequently from the Oakland airport to the nearest BART train station (Coliseum Station) about 10 minutes away. Take the BART Richmond train to the Downtown Berkeley station. The trip takes about 25 minutes ($2). Clark Kerr Campus is 1 km (slightly uphill) from the Downtown Berkeley station. Cab fare should be about $6.
  • Cabs and airport vans from Oakland Airport are about $20-25 for up to 4 persons. Check with the Local Transportation Information desk at the airport.

Automobile:

 

        You will be able to reach most sites of interest by convenient public transportation from the Congress site. However, for those driving, parking by permit at Clark Kerr campus is$10 per day.

        All major rental car companies have counters at the airports, near the baggage pick-up areas. You should make advance reservations to guarantee the availability of a car suiting your needs.
