Croeso if fy nhudalen Cymraeg ar y we!
Welcome to my Welsh webpage!

I grew up in Wales and speak Welsh. I was born in Caerffili, a town at the edge of the South Wales coal fields, famous for it’s cheese and 13th century castle. The South Wales valleys were famous for coal-mining in the last century. The Welsh coal measures were deposited as organic matter in the Carboniferous (~300 Mya) when Wales, as part of the supercontinent Pangea, lay close to the equator and formed part of a huge tropical wetland. Coal mining has all but ceased in South Wales but the legacy lives on at the Mining museum.

My interest in geology and biology grew from my experiences hiking in the Welsh countryside. The Brecon Beacons National Park and the Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park are both close to my home, and are worth a visit.

For those of you who have never heard of Wales here are some interesting links and info:

Wales is a green and pleasant land attached to the belly of England in the U.K. (see map). We have our own National assembly and a rich cultural heritage, but have not been independently ruled since the fall of our last prince Llewelyn ein-llyw-olaf in the 13th century. Edward I, king of England gave the title Prince of Wales to his first born son in 1301, and since then it has been a title bestowed on the heir apparent of the throne of England.
