Research Interests

Wensel has been on the faculty since 1967. He teaches undergraduate
And graduate courses in forest sampling and measurement as well as a
graduate course in research methods.

Wensel's research efforts at Berkeley have included work with multi-
level sampling systems for estimating truckload adequacy of restocking
as defined by California's forest management act. He was a founder of
the Cooperative Redwood Forest Yield Project in 1974 and the Northern
California Forest Yield Cooperative in 1978. Led the development of
the Redwood growth model(CRYPTOS). The measurational relationships
estimated for CRYPTOS and CACTOS were obtained through cooperative
forest inventory work continues with regular improvements in the
computer simulators and the volume, taper, and growth relationships
upon which they are based.

A new line of inquiry includes the study of the relationship of
various climatic variables and tree growth.
