Summary: Getting Eden oriented for senior thesis water sampling, Lots of goats on the levee, swapped 7500, lots of water coming in at inlet.
Mayberry 2025-04-23 Eden, Chloe and I arrived at about 10:30 PDT. Eden is starting a senior thesis collecting algae and plankton samples from the water in the tower footprint. Chloe is from the Ruhi lab and will be advising Eden. We had to drive through lots of goats and three fences on the Mayberry Slough levee. The sneaky back route doesn't seem passible in the southeast corner of the wetland. We went to look at some possible sampling spots including the inlet and outlet of Mayberry. Huge amounts of water were pouring into the wetland. Almost nothing was flowing out - the water was below the boards. Few places have easy access to the water - you have to push through a wall of cattails and tules. At the tower they tested their gear and sampling procedure and had fun wearing waders into the water for the first time. I swapped the 7500 for calibration: sn 0065 came off and sn 75H-2176 went on. 0065 read: 427.0ppm CO2, 464.9mmo/m3 H2O, 19.3C, 100.6kPa, 110.1SS 2176 read: 435.7ppm CO2, 449.9mmol/m3 H2O, 19.2C, 100.7kPa, 101.5SS I updated the pressure coefficients and restarted the 7550 box. The HMP45 had been pushed too deeply into the solar shield and was impacting on the ventilation fan. I think this has been so for more than a month at least. The fan immediately stated up after I pulled the HMP back. I had thought to put the NR01 4-way I want to test up here but there aren't any free excitation ports and one is already doing double duty. I decided to try somewhere else - BC or BA maybe. I picked up all the old scaffolding that I cut up previously for recycling. On the way out we stopped a two places in the tower footprint for more water samples. At the one spot near the inlet the open water was too deep to get a sample. We left at about 12:30 PDT. Chloe and Eden went home in Chloe's car and I made a quick stop at EE to get the other old scaffolding for recycling before heading to BA. |
