Summary: Charlie did the stem/soil chamber work, Swapped the Tower 7700 for calibration, got most of the GPS data, brought in 03 for testing
Tonzi 2025-06-19 Charlie and I arrived at about 11:00 PDT. It was clear, dry and sunny but there was a nice breeze that made it comfortable in the shade. The trees look good, but the grass is dry and crispy. There were a few yellow flowers in the shadiest parts and some tar weed just beginning. The pond is low already. I helped Charlie get started with Kuno's tree and soil chamber measurements. We forgot to turn on the 7810 before we arrived so it had to warm up. Otherwise I think it all went well. I saw one stem chamber was a sink of CH4 and Charlie said another was a big CO2 source. I tried to get Housen's GPSs to give me data. They didn't show up on the router. I read that you can talk to them in hotspot mode so I cycled power on 04 without the router running and could connect to it directly with a web browser pointed at 192.168.42.1. I downloaded all the data I think - still hard to keep track of what you are downloading when you have to click on the files one by one. This same method did not work for the 03 unit. It did not have a green network light like the others. I decided to bring it in for Housen to check. 01 on the tower top also worked well in hotspot mode but had about five weeks of data to download and took a really long time - signal was weak from the ground. I collected the Floor data while helping Charlie get started and collecting the GPS data. The bottom 7700 mirror looked dirty but RSSI was above the wash threshold. The wash reservoir was only a little low - topped up. I did a manual spray and wash and the RSSI came up to a respectable number. I cut the spray time back from 10sec to 5sec. I collected the well and tree temp data and serviced the zcam. The 7500 read: 431.0ppm CO2, 373.0 mmol/m3 H2O, 30.0C, 98.5kPa, 96.4SS - 99.1 after cleaning The 7700 read: 2.02ppm CH4, 43.4RSSI - 74.0 after cleaning At the Tower I hauled up a freshly calibrated 7700 to try to swap the Tower one for calibration. This time all seemed well: sn TG1-0421 came off and sn TG1-0203 went on. The 7500 read: 422.4ppm CO2, 359.8 mmol/m3 H2O, 28.8C, 98.3kPa, 106.8SS 7700 0421 read: 2.02, 37.1RSSI 7700 0203 read: 2.02, 80.9RSSI I connected the new 7700 in the 7550 software and it was reporting in the 7550 window. I collected the phenocam data and flux data. I did not do the manual soil moisture readings - I don't think I will do those anymore. I read the dendrometers, collected the Road well data, and the FD chamber data. The manual well meter was left on and was not working well. While I was waiting for Charlie I took it apart and found a loose wire that I soldered back in place. Then I was able to read the wells. Cows broke the fence on the south side of the tower. I put it back together but we are not running electricity on the fences now to reduce fire risk. I did not get a chance to play with the SP1 soil water potential code again. We left at about 16:00 PDT |
